Colossians 1:13, 14 states the following;
13 who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love; 14 in whom we have our redemption, the forgiveness of our sins…
God the Father delivered us out of the kingdom of darkness and the authority that Satan had over us and translated us, moved us, into the kingdom of Christ, His only Son, the Son who He loves.
We get moved into a new residence by being born into the kingdom of Christ which is where the Blessing of Abraham operates (see Genesis 12 and Galatians 3:13,14).
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
We get what He has.
Jesus redeemed us through His blood. His sacrifice paid a price to purchase our freedom. By this, God the Father has the legal right to translate us into the kingdom of His Son. When we were captives in the kingdom of darkness, His blood paid the ransom required to set us free.
That same blood paid for the remission of our sins. Remission is the forgiveness or pardon of our sins. It is the giving up of the punishment due for the crime which we’re born into. By accepting the gift of salvation, the punishment due us is pardoned and we no longer owe that debt.
These verses in Colossians tell us that:
He delivers us out of Satan’s authority.
He recreates us (by being born into His kingdom).
He redeems us (by His blood).
He pardons all the sins that we have ever done.
As believers in Christ Jesus, we are now made children of God entitled to everything that the Father has. (Romans 8:15-17)
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Rejoice, for you are greatly loved!
Colossians 1:13–14 reminds us that God has rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son. Through the blood of Jesus, we have redemption and the complete forgiveness of our sins. We are no longer captives to the authority of darkness but have been given a new position in Christ. As children of God, we are also heirs with Christ and recipients of His promises.
Amen! What a powerful reminder that God has delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son. We are no longer slaves to our past because Jesus has paid the price for our redemption. What a blessing to know that we are forgiven, accepted, and deeply loved by the Father.
This message reminds me that our salvation is much greater than simply having our sins forgiven. God has given us a new identity, a new home, and a new relationship with Him through Christ. We have been transferred from darkness into the kingdom of His beloved Son. Because of Jesus, we can approach God as our Father. What a glorious privilege!
