Jesus Sings With You!

The Father and Jesus so love us that they agreed it was fitting for Jesus to take on our earthly form and become as we are. He left His glory with the Father and became a man of flesh and blood. He went through the sufferings that we experience and tasted the same death that every human being has to because of the curse found in Genesis chapter 3.

Jesus overcame death, defeated the devil and was raised back to life again. He now sits at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest. Because He was made like us, He experienced all that we are tempted in and knows exactly what we go through. Because He did not sin in all that temptation, He is qualified to render aid to us in our temptations. (See Hebrews 2:17,18)

When we cry out to God, Jesus hears our prayers and immediately begins His role as High Priest. He understands what we are feeling because He also felt those emotions and is able to be merciful towards us. He takes our prayers and requests and presents them to the Father and reminds Him that His own blood paid for our sins, bought our forgiveness and the tearing of His flesh paid for our healing. Every disease and curse was put on Jesus while He hung on the cross. Because of Jesus, we can receive forgiveness and healing from the Father.

In fact, Jesus is so bound to us that He calls us brothers and sisters. He declares the Father to us and shows us the Fathers love. Jesus also sings praises to the Father with us when we sing praises to Him. All these things are found in the book of Hebrews chapter 2.

The next time you begin praising and worshipping the Father, take time to realize and recognize that Jesus Himself is in the midst of everyone gathered to sing and praise. He is praising and singing to the Father with you, as one of you. What a powerful image to have in your mind; Jesus standing next to you, praising the Father, singing just as loud as you, pouring out His spirit of love and joy to the Father. That should ignite your faith and set your praise on fire! (See Hebrews 2:11,12)

Growth

I have been in a season of wondering. Asking God, what about this..., what about that... For much of my questioning, He has been silent. I might get a small glimpse of direction from reading scripture, but no revelation of why or where.

I have been watching a conversation with T.D. Jakes. He is talking about his book "Crushing: God turns Pressure into Power". He talked about the grape vine. There are very specific processes involved with tending grape vines.

The grape is one of very few crops that are grown to be crushed. It must be crushed to get the meat and juice so that wine or jam can be obtained. Its vine is cut and pruned so that it will produce more fruit. There is pain in extracting the desired result.

There is much that is exceptional in what he is saying but this hit me with a hammer; "In between fruit and more fruit is always a knife! God knows exactly where to cut you to make you grow more fruit."

Perhaps you are feeling the crush of weight upon you today. Maybe the knife hurts more than usual. Be patient. Our natural world has seasons within it. There is a season when vibrant growth slows down or stops and it seems as though life has left and all appears to be dead. There is a season of darkness and bitter cold. But there is always a new season of growth on the other side of that darkness.

For many, this is the time for pruning. The old must be cut away to allow for new growth.

Just remember that God knows exactly where to cut you so that you will grow more fruit!

Asking God for Things

Do you struggle with asking God for things? Have you thought that maybe you aren't worth doing that for?

There is a proper way to approach Him and get more than you ever imagined possible.

First, you must approach with this in mind;
𝘏𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘸𝘴 4:16 - 𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘣𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥.

Secondly, you must approach as a child;
Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is made up of little children. If you think about it, we are all children of the Father. We must approach God with the purity and meekness of the heart of a child. Matthew 19:14 - 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥, “𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘔𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘣𝘪𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮; 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯.”

To put this into perspective, when a child comes running to their grandparent and practically jumps into their lap and just hugs on them and tells them that they love their Grammy or Paw Paw, it melts the heart into such a warm love.

The adult then wraps their arms around the child and loves on them and showers them with kisses, and the two of them giggle and laugh and embrace each other tightly. At this point the child has not asked for a thing. They have simply loved on the adult, but the adult is already thinking "what can I do to bring this child happiness? What can I give them to make their day bright?"

Approach God the Father this same way and watch out for His love to get poured out on you and wonderful things that are hidden in your heart to suddenly come to be!

You Are Not Alone

Loneliness seems to be everywhere around us. We live in a time when there are people everywhere, yet so many of them are alone. Their faces tell on them. It is like a black hole of emptiness, slowly enveloping them and they feel helpless to fight against it. This is the state of our world today.

But there is a cure! If you are a child of The Father, you are never alone! We find that promise in Hebrews 13:5 where His Word tells us that He will never leave us, nor forsake us. 𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦. 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘏𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥: “𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶.”

That means that no matter what the circumstance, you can call on Him and He will be right there to comfort you.

To put this in perspective, think of a small child, a toddler playing in the house. That child may be alone in the room with his or her possessions scattered about, but they are not alone. Mama is close by keeping an attentive eye or ear on all that they are doing. All that child needs to do is cry out and mama comes running.

That is how our loving Father is. When you cry out, He is right there to comfort you. He will guide you to safety if you are willing to listen to His Word. Psalm 37:28,29 tells us that He loves the just and will never forsake His faithful ones.

The Stump Lot

There was an old farmer who worked hard and saved so that he could purchase a piece of land that was adjacent to the small homestead that they owned. He had two sons that he taught how to do all that he knew. He told them how their riches were hidden in the land that the family had. Over the years he worked on it gradually harvesting the trees so that all that was left was the stumps.

Unfortunately, he became ill and became bedridden. His boys just knew that their daddy had hidden the family’s gold somewhere on the property. They were concerned that the sickness would take him before too long, so they pressed him to reveal where the gold was hidden. In a weak voice he said, "the stump lot, the stump lot."

They went out and stood surveying the stump lot. It was a huge piece of property nestled in a valley with a quiet creek winding through the middle. Across that valley were literally hundreds of stumps that were everywhere. There was no visible sign as to where this gold might be hidden so the boys went to work digging out the stumps trying to find out which one the gold was hidden under.

This process went on for many months. They asked their father again where the gold was and he assured them that it was in the stump lot. Winter was approaching and they had just about removed every stump on the property, but still no gold. When spring arrived, they had completed the task of removing every single stump from the original forest of trees that had existed on this property.

The old farmer died just before they finished clearing the land. They were so disappointed that they had not found the gold and their only source of knowledge of where the gold could be was gone. The sons were out looking over the property discussing what the next steps would be when their mama suggested that they plant the field that they had worked so hard to clear. They agreed to plant the field in corn.

Later that summer, the harvest of corn was incredible. The land was so fertile that the seed produced far above what other farmers realized on their properties. It was then that the boys found the old farmer's gold. It truly was in the stump lot.

Wealth isn't worth having if it is just turned over to you. But if you diligently work at it every day, you will prosper far above what you could have imagined.

Your heavenly Father has placed before you a stump lot called life. Your task is to dig out all the old rotten stumps that stand in your way. If you do this and prepare the soil of your heart, you will find that it is fertile and full of life. As you plant love in that soil, it will return to you a tremendous harvest of family and friendships that will truly make you richer than any bag of money.

Bitter Water

Have you wondered as you walk out your relationship with God, why sometimes it seems like you are having to come to places that are bitter? You spend time with Him, praying, reading His Word, practicing the principles of love as He teaches, yet hardships seem to come. The very things that you profess that God takes away show up in your life, berating you, confronting your beliefs.

I challenge you to consider this; life’s tribulation is by design. The Lord allows you to be tested so that you will be strengthened. For you to grow stronger, you must exert yourself against that which challenges you. An athlete gets stronger, faster, and better by constant training. A boxer becomes a better fighter by practicing against opponents and thus is prepared for the real contests.

In Exodus 15, the Israelites had just passed through the Red Sea and witnessed the destruction of the Egyptian army. They traveled three days following the pillar of fire by night and cloud by day into the wilderness and had no water. They came to a place called Marah where there was water, but it was bitter, and they could not drink it. Think about this for a minute; they followed the Lord God who led them by cloud and fire to this place. They were following God, but He led them to a place where the only water around couldn’t be consumed.

Moses cried out to the Lord and the Lord showed Moses a tree that when he cast its branches into the water, it would purify the water and make it drinkable. God tested them and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, I will not allow the diseases that came on the Egyptians to come on you; for I, the Lord, am your healer.” By calling on the Lord, they were learning to place their trust in Him. They were learning to exercise their trust and their faith in the Lord God.

A similar passage can be found in John 16 where Jesus is talking to His disciples. He tells them that they will have tribulation in this world. As they walk out the things He has taught them, they are going to face opposition. Trouble will come to them. But He adds something very important. He tells them to be of good cheer; He has overcome the world.

We can’t stop there though. In Luke 10, Jesus tells us that He has given us authority over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt us.

While trouble may show up beating on our doorstep, we have authority over it. We can and should by the power and authority we have been given, command it to go from us. So yes, we are following His commands. Yes, we are diligently obeying His word and yes, trouble will come while we are doing that. But He has overcome all that trouble and given us the authority and power to do the same. We just need to exercise our faith and trust Him. Speak 𝐭𝐨 your problems, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 them, and tell them to go. Because you have His authority, they must obey.

Previously, I covered a breakdown of the Lord’s Prayer. It is a model for how to construct your prayer time with the Lord. In this post, we will do a deep dive on Matthew 7:7-11. In this passage, Jesus is teaching us about asking, seeking, and knocking. Here is the passage;

The New Testament was written in the Greek language. We are going to review some of the key words from this scripture. Starting with Ask, the Greek word is 𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐨 and it means to request, petition, or require. Given is the Greek word 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐢. It means giving something to someone (of one’s own accord to give on something to his advantage). It also means to bestow a gift. The next set of words are seek and find. Seek is 𝐳𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐨 in Greek. It means to seek by thinking, meditating, reasoning, to enquire into. Find is 𝐡𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐨 in Greek. It means to come upon, hit upon, to meet with. It also means to find by enquiry, thought, examination, scrutiny or observation. Lastly the words knock and open need to be defined. Knock in the Greek is krove, which means knock at the door. Open in the Greek is 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐠𝐨, which means to open.

If we use the definitions of the Greek words, we can paraphrase the scripture to read in this manner;

𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘴 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘪𝘮.

Jesus is telling us that we can ask, and seek, and knock to get answers. He will see to it that our requests will be answered. But why are many prayers not answered? We need to look at James 4:3.

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴.

It sounds like we are asking the wrong questions. How can we ask the correct questions? Look at 1 John 5:14-15;

14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Our prayers get answered when we are asking according to God’s will for us. That means we must submit ourselves to His will and be obedient to ask and do the things He wants for us. Do not think that this is a difficult thing. Jesus Himself said in John 6:38 - 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘔𝘺 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘏𝘪𝘮 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘔𝘦.

It is a matter of using the outline at the beginning of this post to seek by thinking, meditating, reasoning, to enquire into the Bible so you can know God’s will. That is found in Romans 12:2.

𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘥.

Our way of thinking is corrupt because of sin. But if we study the Bible, which is the Word of God, we will transform our way of thinking so that it aligns with the way God thinks and in that we will find the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Then when we pray and ask the Father, He will grant us our petitions. In a broad sense, God’s will is the same for all of us. 2 Peter 3:9 states;

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦, 𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘴𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘶𝘴, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦.

God does not wish for anyone to die and go into eternity not in His presence. However, each of us has a different assignment or story to complete while we are alive. So, in this respect, God’s will for each person is different. I may hear a person praying and asking for some specific thing and thinking to myself; that sounds great. I think that I would like the same thing. God may not desire for me to have that because my path is different than theirs. That would constitute me asking amiss. I need to spend time thinking, meditating and reasoning in God’s Word so I can know what He desires for me specifically.

Our relationship with Jesus and the Father is a personal one. Each of us has a unique personality that God the Father put into us. You will need to build your relationship by spending one on one time with God so that He can show you what is best for you.

Most people view prayer as a time alone in which they speak to God. While this is a true definition, the practice of this has degraded to a person taking a few moments to rattle off a list of things they want God to do for them much like reciting a shopping list to their spouse and reminding them not to forget any of the items. Do you really expect God to be like an administrative assistant, taking note of your wants and then heading off to fulfill your shopping list?

I also had to learn how to properly pray and not recite a list of wants and actions I desired for God to perform. I recall a time when I was reading the Bible, meditating on scriptures and talking to the Father, like He was right there with me. I could sense Him speaking to me deep down in my spirit. This is what He shared with me; Get up every morning and spend time praising the Father. Worship your LORD, and Savior. Then go through the steps of the prayer
guide given by Jesus in Matthew chapter 6. Then read and study the Bible, His Word, for guidance and instructions.

Wow, a simple yet direct way to pray and get the proper response to any request that I might make. The first thing I did was look closely at what many people call the Lord’s Prayer, or Our Father. Here is that passage found in Matthew 6:9-13;

9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

First, I had to divide it up into sections because this is a guide. Each section has a specific purpose. This is what I came up with;

Verse 9 is praise.
Verse 10 is purpose.
Verse 11 is provision.
Verse 12 is forgiveness.
Verse 13a is grace and verse 13b is back to praise.

Jesus guides us to start off with praise. Praise, the act of verbally worshipping and expressing love to the Father, creates an atmosphere that allows Him to do His will for you, right amid your praise to Him.

Jesus spent time teaching that God is our Father, He resides in heaven, and He is holy. We need to recognize His holiness and reverence Him. The next verse is about purpose. We are to ask, request, even demand that His kingdom comes and His will gets done here on the earth just like it is there in heaven.

The next verse is about provision. We should ask for what we need for today. You do not need to consider your requests for tomorrow or the next day because you are to perform this prayer every single morning.

Verse twelve is extremely important. You are to ask Him to forgive you for debts. The New Living Translation says forgive us for our sins. While you want God to forgive you for your sins against Him, the second part of this verse is even more important. As we forgive our debtors, or as we forgive those who have sinned against us. If you do not forgive people who have wronged you, what right do you have to expect the Father to forgive you?

Next is grace. You are asking God to help you avoid the temptations of the devil, the evil one and for God’s deliverance from traps of the evil one. God provides protection and deliverance from the terrible things in this world. All you have to do is ask and He will provide.

Lastly, it’s back to praise. You must recognize that everything belongs to Him. His is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.

In short, start your morning by praising and singing to the LORD God. Your praise invites Him into your presence. Then make your requests known to Him and clear your heart of unforgiveness. Finish up your time with God by praising and singing to Him and I promise your day will be so much better!

Making A Relationship Into A Forever Love

So many people meet, develop their relationship and make the decision to get married. The first couple of years together mark a time of learning about each other. It’s a time of infatuation growing into something more mature. The Philia or deep friendship love becomes a time of Eros love (the sexual passion) that fuels a driving force in the new marriage. Over time each person notices slow changes occurring.

Often the pressures of life begin to take hold. The desire to climb the corporate ladder and gain prestige shows up. Perhaps children have come along and a need to work more hours to increase financial resources is becoming prevalent. A thousand reasons for a person to spend time working on something knocks on the door every day, leeching happiness and playfulness

out of the relationship.

This is the time when maturity is needed. People will look to material things to demonstrate their commitment to the partner. Maybe a new wardrobe, new car or furniture shows up to say “Honey, I love you”. But that adds to the financial pressure which then pulls the couple further apart because of time away and stress related to debt.

To reach forever love in a marriage, it isn’t about the random ‘vacation away from it all’ or the next ‘new thing’. Those are nice but often lead to new stress points brought about by financial strain or competition with friends and family to outdo or keep up with them.

Forever love is a hundred acts of kindness bestowed upon the partner every day, without fail. These are the things that linger in the mind of the recipient long past the tossing away of the few material things that have lost their usefulness.

If you want a marriage that stands the trials and tests of time, love your partner a hundred different times and ways, every day. Do things that don’t cost money but pay the greatest dividends. Become a student of what they like and don’t like. Figure out what they are drawn to or brings a smile to their face. Say, do, and be, the things they like, avoid those things that they do not care for.

When the children are grown and gone, it will be just the two of you. You’ll thank me for this then.

Make Memories, Not Money

Most people from the time they are young receive words of advice guiding them towards how to make money. Instructions are given regarding their career path. Perhaps it is higher education or an apprenticeship in a trade. These are important so the person becomes self-reliant and successful in making proper financial decisions. This is only part of what is important in maturing into a responsible adult.

Life’s true business is making memories. You will leave everything you acquire behind when you die. Your memories are the only thing you will take with you into eternity. What did you do to benefit those who are impacted by your words and deeds? Did you speak into their lives or just speak at them? Time is a commodity that every person gets at birth. We all receive the same amount each day. Where did you spend your time? What did you invest your time in?

The memories you leave with others will be the only thing they keep of you that has any real value. The things you gathered into your vault of possessions may have been important to you,

but they may not mean anything to the people you leave behind. They cannot hold the wheel of your expensive car and experience the warm touch of your hand when you are no longer there. The elaborate sound system will not deliver your kind words of encouragement when you are gone.

Invest in those to whom you are important to. Take the time to evaluate the relationship you have with each person in your sphere of influence. Find out what they need, not what you need. What can you do to improve their life through your relationship with them? Speak kind words into them. Hold them just a little bit longer so they feel your love. Encourage them when they make a mistake and help them overcome the missteps.

Spend your currency of time on people, not things.

You are here for the next generation. Do everything you can to equip them to become better than you. Prepare them for greatness and teach them how to pass it on to those around them and after them.
